Unshaken

Your faith does not rest on what we know about space. It rests on Jesus.

If the disclosure stories have shaken you, this is for you. Maybe you have felt a knot in your stomach reading the headlines. Maybe a thought has started to nag at you: what if this is the thing that finally proves my faith wrong. Here is the truth. You can stop bracing for it. Your faith is much stronger than the news makes it feel.

One thing is hard to miss once you see it. The warning is always pointed at Christians. We are the ones told our beliefs are about to crumble. You do not hear that same warning given to anyone else. Keep that in mind as you read.

What Would It Really Change?

Think about what would really change if we found out there is life somewhere else. The honest answer is nothing that touches you. Jesus still died for you. He still rose. God still loves you the same way He did this morning. The cross does not depend on whether the universe turns out to be empty or full.

The Bible never claims Earth is the only place God ever made anything. It says God made “the heavens and the earth, the seas, and all that is in them” (Nehemiah 9:6). If the universe is bigger than we thought, that is no trouble for God. He made all of it. “The heavens declare the glory of God” (Psalm 19:1).

C.S. Lewis Faced the Same Fear

C.S. Lewis dealt with this same fear more than sixty years ago. In his day people were certain that life on other planets would be the end of Christianity. He disagreed, and he gave a simple reason. We do not get to decide in advance what God has or has not done in the rest of His creation. To assume He has done nothing is just pride.

Lewis also wrote stories about it. In them he imagined Earth as a world cut off from the rest, held back by its own rebellion, while real spiritual evil worked quietly behind a friendly mask of science and progress. He understood how lies usually arrive. They rarely look like lies. They look like enlightenment.

The Oldest Trick

A deception does not need to be a lie about the sky. It only needs to pull your attention away from Jesus. The devil “comes only to steal and kill and destroy” (John 10:10), and his oldest method is not a new fact. It is an old question: “Did God really say…?” (Genesis 3:1). He asked it in the garden, and he is still asking it now.

The Bible does warn about a coming deception, and it is honest about how strong it will be. Paul wrote of a day marked by “all sorts of displays of power through signs and wonders that serve the lie” (2 Thessalonians 2:9), when God would let “a powerful delusion” fall on people “so that they will believe the lie” (2 Thessalonians 2:11). But read the reason carefully. Paul says it lands on those who “refused to love the truth and so be saved” (2 Thessalonians 2:10). The delusion does not overpower people who love Jesus. It catches people who already turned away from Him. So the safest place to stand is close to the truth, which means close to Christ Himself, who said plainly, “I am the way and the truth and the life” (John 14:6).

You Do Not Have to Be Afraid

So do not be afraid. God “has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7). Every deception runs on fear. When you refuse to be afraid, it loses its grip on you.

The God who made the stars knows each one by name (Psalm 147:4). He is not worried about anything people might announce, and you do not have to be either. Test what you hear (1 John 4:1). Hold on to what is true (1 Thessalonians 5:21). Your faith was never built on the parts of the universe we have not explored yet. It was built on Jesus Christ, “the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8). He has not changed, and He will not.

Stand firm. You belong to God, and nothing in the sky can change that.
